Tui-Na (pronounced “twee – nah” / translated as “push pull”)
Tui-Na is also know as acupressure or Chinese Medical Massage. Tui Na, being part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, utilizes the same diagnostic techniques, energy points and meridians as those in acupuncture. Instead of needles, Tui Na applies deep pressure in addition to other techniques to stimulate the meridians. Tui Na uses a variety of hand techniques and passive/active stretching to restore and correct anatomical muscular-skeletal interaction, joint disorder, neuromuscular irregularities, to increase the circulation of Qi and Blood, to release toxins, facilitate healing and prevent further injury.
This technique is a Japanese form of bodywork. The word shiatsu means “finger pressure”, and shiatsu is sometimes described as a finger pressure massage. Shiatsu is usually performed with the client fully clothed, so it is best to wear loose fitting clothing. The shiatsu therapist applies pressure using his or her fingers, thumbs, and/or palms in a continuous rhythmic sequence. The pressure feels more localized, because unlike other types of massage, the finger pads are used to apply pressure for most of the treatment instead of the entire palm.
Qigong Healing (The Chinese name of this form of massage is wai qi liao fa, or “curing with external qi.”)
In Qi healing, a Qigong master who has practiced the art for many years transmits qi directly to the client. Similar to Reiki in that it uses Qi or Energy to promote healing, Qigong healing take a more direct approach. Using specific points on the body, the energy meridians or channels within the body, and the medical intuitive knowledge of the practitioner, Qigong healing can have a profound effect.
